What it’s all about & the faces behind Design Crawl
Like many great ideas, Design Crawl was borne out of an innocent chat in the office between two Design Crawl Founders Faye Robinson and Katie Fluhrer. Both Faye and Katie work from a design based showroom space within the city centre of Manchester and over recent years have witnessed a growth in the number, and the quality of showroom resources within the city.
This resource, with great products, run by talented people was vastly underrated and underused. Design Crawl was created to increase the visibility of these spaces, to get more people from the design community into these spaces. The need to travel to London or beyond to view the latest product innovations is no longer necessary when Manchester is home to many of the brand leaders in design too.
With the support and encouragement of colleagues and peers in just under 2 months, a new showroom led design event had been created. Design Crawl 2019 included over 13 showrooms, over 30 scheduled events with over 500 ‘crawlers’ taking part.
Faye and Katie were joined by Daryl Jackson in January 2020. Daryl, also from a showroom background brings a wealth of experience in marketing, media and events. Back in 2019, Daryl showed a clear ambition for the events growth, designing and developing the website and managing other marketing materials.
Showrooms are a big investment. There is no better way to see and experience a product and speak to people who are passionate about their work. There is, of course, a market for tradeshows, but with the desire to reduce waste and our impact on the environment, Design Crawl provides a cleaner alternative and one which isn’t packed away after two days. The showroom spaces always remain open and welcoming throughout the year. We look forward to bringing you Design Crawl 2020 and growing the event each year.
